Emergency Prepareness

It seems as through some form of disaster are occurring more frequently and in often times in uncommon places. Many are questioning, are these occurrences related to global warming? Global warming facts do suggest that climate change may:

• Cause changes in precipitation (a greater incidence of flooding)

• See a higher incidence of forest fires

• Have more frequent and intense storms and tornadoes

During the month of June, 2010, Utility officials reported that strong storms knocked out power for about 215,000 Chicago-area customers and downed more than 1,000 trees and 311 utility wires. Approximately 150,000 customers in Michigan lost power and 60,000 in Indiana. In Ohio It was reported that at least five lives were lost and scores of homes destroyed or damaged when tornado ripped through northwestern Ohio. During the latter part of June 2010, Tornadoes touched down in northwestern and southern Minnesota leaving atleast three Fatalities and severe damage through out the affected areas.

When disaster strike we are depending upon someone else for our vital necessitates, and often times help may be slow to arrive. It is a good idea for every household to have an Emergency Preparedness Kit easy accessible.  Two of my family members suffered through a horrific tornado in the spring of 2003 and lost everything. They were totally depending upon someone for help which was definitely slow to arrive since the tornado occurred on a Sunday morning before dawn.

I decided to put together an Emergency Preparedness kit for my family. What you put into your kit is up to you, but think of the most basic essentials that you may need. Also you could have a situation where power lines or something else may prevent from coming in or leaving a community for an indefinite amount of time and you should also consider some type of dehydrated food items. Also take under consideration the water supply could become tainted.

Some emergency kit suggestions would be:

• Emergency Food Units

• Dehydrated & survival Foods

• Walter filters

• Walter purifier

• Salt water Filter

• Preparedness Books

• Water tablets and treatment

• Water purification

We all need to make as much preparation as possible before the flood, fire, earthquake, emergency, hurricanes/tornadoes. You never realize how important basic essentials are until you have none.

You can find emergency supplies at many stores online and offline.
